Modifications are needed to run the X Window System. After the installation, complete the following steps:
1.Log in as root.
2.Type X -configure
3.Type vi /root/xorg.conf.new
4.Scroll to the section that begins with the line Section "Monitor"
5.Using the mouse, highlight the monitor section (usually about 9 lines) by holding the left mouse button down and dragging the mouse across the area.
6.Type :q to exit the editor.
7.Type vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
8.Scroll to the section that begins with the line Section "Monitor".
9.Place the cursor on the first line of that section. Type dd until the whole monitor section is deleted.
10.Type i to enter insertion mode.
11.Click the right mouse button to paste the new section into the file.
12.Press Esc to exit insert mode.
13.Scroll to the section which begins with the line Section "Device".
14.Complete the following steps using exact punctuation and capitalization:
A. Type /radeon and then press Enter.
B. Type dw
C. Type i
D. Type vesa so that the completed line is:
Driver "vesa"
and then press Esc.
E. Type /DPMS and then press Enter.
F. Type A
G. Type "off" so that the completed line is:
Option "DPMS" "off"
and then press Esc.
H. Type :wq to save and exit.
15.Type init 5
16.If you want the server to start the X Window System during startup, complete the following steps:
A Open the /etc/inittab file in a text editor.
B Locate the line "id:3:initdefault:" and change it to:
id:5:initdefault:
C Save and close the file.
D Open the /boot/grub/grub.conf file in a text editor.
E Locate each line that begins with "kernel" and remove the solitary "3" from the line.
F Save and close the file.
